Adani Group’s copper unit starts in Mundra, seven thousand people will get employment

Ahmedabad (Uttam Hindu News): Launching Adani’s portfolio in the metals industry, Kutch Copper, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL), on Thursday commissioned the first unit of its greenfield copper refinery project at Mundra, Gujarat with the dispatch of the first batch of cathodes to customers. With its commencement, two thousand direct and five thousand indirect employment opportunities will be created.
Adani Enterprises is investing about $1.2 billion to set up a 0.5 MTPA (million tonne per annum) capacity copper smelter in the first phase of the project. Gautam Adani, Founder and Chairman, Adani Group, said, “With the commencement of this project, Adani Group is not only entering the metals sector, but India is also taking a leap towards a sustainable and self-reliant future.”
Gautam Adani said, “This project is a testament to our commitment to take India to the forefront of the global copper sector.” Upon completion of Phase II of the project, Kutch Copper – will be the world’s largest single-location custom smelter with 1 MTPA, the company said in a statement.
Gautam Adani said, “We believe that the domestic copper industry will play an important role in achieving the country’s goal of becoming carbon free by 2070 along with environmental protection.” Adani Group Chairman said, “Our modern smelter will set new standards in copper production with greater emphasis on innovative green technology.”
Demand for copper will increase with the development of renewable energy, electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and power transmission and distribution networks. The technology used by Kutch Copper has been designed keeping in mind minimum carbon emissions.
One-third of the plant will have green belt. Trees and plants will be planted here. Plain water is being used in the plant. The company said that it cleans the treated waste water and uses it again.
