Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), Ahmedabad, is on a gradual expansion path. A significant increase in traffic has been recorded with a 35 per cent increase in the number of tourists by September 2023 compared to the same period in FY 2023. By September 2023, SVPIA is expected to handle more than 5 million passengers, showing a growth of 35 per cent over the previous year (3.9 million). Till last week, the airport had recorded 28,969 domestic movements and 5,193 international movements.
Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Kolkata and Varanasi emerged as the top domestic destinations during the year while London (Gatwick), Doha and Singapore emerged as the top international destinations. Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Dubai, London and Doha are among the top growing routes compared to the same period in 2022-23.
Ahmedabad Airport has recently inaugurated an Immigration Hall with 24 immigration counters at the International Terminal – T2, providing better services and facilities to international passengers. Domestic Terminal – T1 comprises of an additional luggage lane in the arrivals area, dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones, increased number of check-in counters at departures. The entry lanes, expanded security check area and new boarding gate departures at the domestic terminal etc. provide a wonderful travel experience for Digi Yatra users.
There is a significant increase of 14 per cent in cargo tonnage at SVPI’s self-operated cargo terminals by August 2023 as compared to the previous year. The international cargo terminal operated by SVPI – T3 is looking to expand its capacity with large-scale X-ray machines to enable palletized cargo acceptance. T3 is now processing international couriers to various countries including the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand through Customs-approved courier partners. SVPIA is also developing an Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT) with world class cargo handling infrastructure.
