New Delhi. Air India has imposed a two-year flying ban on a person who misbehaved during a flight from Delhi to London on April 10. Giving this information on Friday, a source said that this person is accused of causing bodily harm to two female crew members in the aircraft. Delhi Police had registered a case against this passenger on the basis of a complaint made by the supervisor of the crew of Air India. The passenger has been identified as Jaskirat Singh Padda, 25, a resident of Punjab.
The source said on Friday that an internal committee constituted by Air India in the context of the incident unanimously decided that the accused youth did not deserve to be shown leniency. The committee banned the accused from traveling on Air India flights for two years, the source said. The source said that the behavior of the accused person was considered as a level-3 category offense. There has been no response from Air India in this regard. The rules of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation provide for classification of unruly passenger behavior into three levels.
Physical gestures and verbal abuse and other forms of misbehavior fall under level-1, while physical harassment such as pushing, kicking or sexual harassment comes under level-2. Similarly, level-three comes under deadly abuse such as damaging an aircraft’s operating system, deadly assault or physical violence such as strangulation etc. Citing a complaint by Air India’s crew supervisor, the Delhi Police said that on April 10, an unruly passenger was seen opening the flight door after an hour of flight.
