New Delhi: New Delhi: There has been a tremendous increase in the number of passengers traveling by flight. There has been a 47 per cent increase in the number of people traveling by air this year. There has been a jump of 14 per cent in December alone. According to the data released by India, the number of passengers of all airlines has increased from January to December 2022. These numbers reached 123 million. Last year this figure was 83 million.

According to the data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the number of domestic air passengers increased by 13.69 percent on an annual basis in December. This number has reached 127.35 lakh. IndiGo has benefited the most from this. Indigo has flown with 69.97 lakh passengers. IndiGo flew far ahead of other airlines during December with a 54.9 per cent share of the domestic aviation sector, while Vistara and Air India grabbed the second spot with 9.2 per cent market share. As per the latest data of aviation regulator DGCA for December, 69.97 lakh passengers flew in IndiGo, 11.70 lakh in Vistara and 11.71 lakh in Air India during the month. With 9.51 lakh air passengers, Go Air had a market share of 7.5 per cent during December.

In the year 2022, IndiGo achieved a market share of 56.1 per cent carrying 690.93 lakh passengers, while Vistara had a market share of 9.2 per cent with 113.59 lakh passengers, and Air India had a market share of 8.7 per cent with 107.74 lakh air passengers. According to the DGCA data released on Thursday, the total cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of December 2022 stood at 0.79 per cent. The main reasons for cancellation have been identified as weather, technical or operational. During December, maximum 81.1 per cent flights were canceled due to weather related reasons and 7.8 per cent due to technical reasons.

Domestic air traffic continues to grow, passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-December 2022 were 12.32 crore as against 8.38 crore during the same period last year, registering an annual growth of 47.05% and a monthly growth of 13.69% done. Around 1.27 crore passengers were carried by domestic airlines in the country during December, as against 1.12 crore during the same period last year, according to data released by the DGCA on Thursday.
