Air India Air India has introduced an additional policy with Flight Service Duration Limit (FDTL), which appears to dilute the DGCA authority and purpose. Pilot unions have also demanded a review and assessment of the issue from DGCA.
Mumbai Air India pilot organizations IPG and ICPA on Saturday expressed deep concern over the Tata group airline’s new flight service and rest period scheme. These organizations alleged that the company was deviating from the DGCA norms. Two unions – Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) and Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) made this allegation in a joint letter written to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
The letter said that Air India has introduced an additional policy with Flight Service Duration Limit (FDTL), which appears to dilute the DGCA authority and purpose. Pilot unions have also demanded a review and assessment of the issue from DGCA. A request has also been made to take appropriate steps to resolve this matter.
The flying service period of pilots and crew members is regulated by aviation safety regulator DGCA. The regulator last month proposed more rest hours for pilots.
