New Delhi: The emergency landing of an Air India flight took place in Stockholm yesterday. Emergency landing was done after oil leaked from the engine. After which 300 passengers of Air India are stuck there. Now Air India is going to send a flight to bring them back. Air India on Thursday said it will operate a special flight to Stockholm to bring back passengers stranded there due to the diversion of its flight from Newark to the Swedish capital on Wednesday. It is noteworthy that the Boeing 777-300 flight coming from Newark to Delhi was diverted to Stockholm on Wednesday due to leakage of oil from the engine.
An Air India spokesperson said that the Boeing 777 aircraft will leave from Mumbai at around 2 pm to bring back the stranded passengers to Stockholm and will reach Stockholm at 11 pm Indian time. He told that the special aircraft will take off from Stockholm at around 1 am IST and reach Delhi at 8 am IST on Friday morning.
The Newark to Delhi flight had 292 passengers including eight infants, 15 crew members and four pilots. The plane made an emergency landing at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport. The plane landed at the airport safely. Late on Wednesday, an Air India spokesperson had said that the airline is in discussion with the Swedish authorities to grant immigration clearance to some of the passengers who are still at the airport. A senior official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Wednesday that one of the aircraft’s engines was leaking oil, due to which it was shut down. The plane later made an emergency landing in Stockholm, he said.
