Air India Urination Case: Union in support of Air India’s pilot, know what is their demand

The Director General Civil Aviation or DGCA (DGCA), the regulator of the aviation sector in the country, has taken action in this matter. The incident of urinating on a co-traveller took place on 26 November 2022. But the matter came to light later when the victim woman wrote a letter to the chairman of Tata Sons. After this, on January 20, the DGCA imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India. Also, the license of the pilot-in-command of the concerned flight was suspended for three months. Besides this, the regulator had also imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the director of in-flight services of Air India for failing to discharge his duties.
Union came in support
The Air India Joint Action Forum, a group of six unions, has intervened in the matter. The forum made an appeal to the DGCA on Tuesday. The forum says that the pilot-in-command, who has been suspended for the urination incident, should withdraw the order. In a letter to the DGCA, the forum said due process of investigation was not followed and critical steps in investigation and enforcement were skipped. The unions have appealed to the DGCA to withdraw the harsh punishment and suspension of the pilot-in-command.
Which unions are included in the Forum?
The Forum comprises six unions. Their names are – Indian Pilots Guild, Indian Commercial Pilots Association, Air Corporation Employees Union, Air India Employees Union, All India Cabin Crew Association and Airline Pilots Association of India. Earlier, on Tuesday, Air India had said that it has closed an internal inquiry into the matter. It will also help in appeal against the suspension of the license of the pilot-in-command of the flight.
