Preparation to make hub of aerospace industry
The government wants to make India the hub of the aerospace industry. India is emerging as a major force in the aviation industry. The government wants giants like Airbus and Boeing to manufacture aircraft in India only. The government has also talked to these companies about this and their reply is awaited. Imports of aircraft and turbo jets have skyrocketed in recent years. To reduce the trade deficit, the government is identifying such things, which are being imported a lot. Aircraft manufacturing companies are also buying some spare parts from India, but the government is not satisfied with this. It wants Boeing and Airbus to set up their final assembly lines in India.
The final assembly line means it will have its entire supply chain ecosystem in India. These include from making the body of the aircraft to wings, assembled engine, seat etc.
Plant being set up here
Let us tell you that the Tata-led consortium is setting up a plant in Vadodara. C-295 transport aircraft will be made in this plant. For this, the Indian Air Force had signed a deal of Rs 21,935 crore in 2021. Tata has joined hands with Airbus Defense & Projects to provide 56 such aircraft to the Airforce. These aircraft will replace the aging Avro aircraft. This project is being considered as an important step towards promoting the domestic aerospace sector. This aircraft can also be used for civil works purposes. Under the agreement, Airbus will deliver 16 aircraft from its assembly line in Spain within four years. After this, 40 aircraft will be made in India only.
Indigenous components will be used
96 percent indigenous components will be installed in the aircraft. The first Made in India aircraft is expected to be delivered in September 2026. According to Air Force officials, this aircraft will be able to operate from Advanced Landing Grounds (ALG) and even from unprepared runways. The aircraft can carry about 70 passengers. This will be the first time the C-295 aircraft will be manufactured outside Europe. The C-295MW aircraft is a 5-10 tonne transport aircraft that will replace the aging Avro aircraft of the Indian Air Force. It will have a ‘rear ramp’ door for fast response and para dropping of troops and material.
