New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Amazon India has laid off around 400-500 employees from its cloud division AWS as well as People Experience and Technology Solutions (PXT) or HR and support verticals. The company has laid off around 400-500 employees. According to sources, the layoffs in the country are part of the 9,000 layoffs announced by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy in March.
In March, Amazon announced plans to lay off 9,000 employees across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Twitch, advertising and HR.
According to a memo shared by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy with employees in March, the e-commerce giant initially eliminated 18,000 positions in January and completed the second phase of its plan this month. We were forced to cut 9,000 additional roles.
“I am writing to share that we are looking to eliminate approximately 9,000 more positions over the next few weeks, mostly in AWS, PXT, Ads, and Twitch,” he noted. It was a difficult decision, but one we feel is best for the long term of the company, he added. AWS CEO Adam Selipsky also announced that the layoffs at AWS would begin in North America, and then move globally.
Both the size of our company and the size of our team have grown significantly in recent years, driven by customer demand for the cloud and the unique value that AWS provides, said Selipsky. This growth has come at a rapid pace because the faster we manufacture, the faster we can meet customer needs.
Jesse said the e-commerce giant made the difficult decision to eliminate approximately 27,000 corporate roles and, like most leadership teams, it will continue to evaluate and move forward. Jesse said that while the company has taken several steps to streamline costs, we are still able to do so because of key strategic long-term investments.
