It was believed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could join the Oscar Awards in a virtual way and talk about the current war situation, but the organizers of the Oscars rejected this appeal.
Russia and Ukraine have been at war for more than a year now. No one was sure that Ukraine would remain at war for so long. The effect of the war between the two countries has been seen all over the world. Due to the war, where people are sympathetic towards Ukraine, on the other hand, the whole world has imposed various sanctions on Russia. It is believed that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky can join the Oscar Awards virtually and talk about the current war situation, but the organizers of the Oscars rejected this appeal.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is reportedly eyeing a virtual guest spot at the 95th Annual Academy Awards. However, this demand was turned down. With this, he will miss the Academy Award for the second year in a row. The Oscars is scheduled to be held on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The prestigious award ceremony will be telecast in India on the morning of March 13.
Academy turns down Zelensky’s request to speak at Oscars
Zelensky has been snubbed by the Academy for the second year in a row, Variety reports. Sources say that WME power agent Mike Simpson pleaded with the Academy to include the comedian-turned-politician but was turned down. This comes after Americans’ support for providing aid to Ukraine weakened. Representatives for the Academy, WME and ABC did not comment when contacted by The Times.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine more than a year ago, Zelensky has appeared at several award shows and events. He has tried to draw attention to the ongoing war through him. In April 2022, Zelensky also appeared at the 64th Grammy Awards virtually. Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars 2023 after 2018. The show went hostless for several years after Kimmel’s last outing. Last year, Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes hosted as a trio.
