Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the Advanced Biological Testing Laboratory at Amulfed Dairy in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The state-of-the-art laboratory at Amulfed Dairy, a unit of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which sells products under the Amul brand, will verify whether foods labeled ‘organic’ are authentic. This will show whether artificial fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals have not been used during the cultivation of food items.
GCMMF said in a statement that this is the first dedicated laboratory by a cooperative to conduct organic testing and support organic producers. The growing demand for organic food products in India necessitates such advanced facilities. Organic food is produced without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals, according to the release.
