Another Air India flight caught urinating, fined Rs 10 lakh

New Delhi: Aviation regulator DGCA has slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India for not reporting two incidents of misbehavior by passengers on its Paris-Delhi flight last month. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that there were two incidents of unruly behavior of passengers on Air India’s Paris-New Delhi flight AI-142 on December 6. But after the regulator came to know about this in January, a fine of Rs 10 lakh is being imposed on Air India.
The regulator said a passenger on board the flight was found smoking in the lavatory in an inebriated state. On the same flight, another passenger allegedly urinated on a blanket placed on an empty seat next to him. At that time the female passenger sitting on the adjacent seat had gone to the toilet. Tata Group-led Air India has been fined by the DGCA for the second time in less than a week. Last week too, the aviation regulator had imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on the airline for urinating on a female co-traveller in an inebriated condition during a New York-Delhi flight.
Thus, this is the second incident of passengers urinating on an Air India flight in the last few months. In both these cases, it has come to light that Air India did not inform the DGCA on time. DGCA said, that ‘A fine of Rs 10 lakh has been imposed on Air India for not giving information about this matter on time. The airline had also delayed handing over the matter to its internal committee, which is in violation of the Civil Aviation Rules. Why not take action. On this, Air India submitted its reply on 23 January. After its review, the regulator has decided to impose the penalty.
