Swatantra Veer Savarkar Review: Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is one of the most controversial names in history. The incident of apologizing to the British in his name has always been mentioned, but Randeep Hooda’s film Swatantra Veer Savarkar brings to the fore those pages of Veer Savarkar’s life. In which what were his thoughts? What was his contribution in the freedom struggle? How much torture and suffering he had endured. What was his thinking behind apologizing to the British? This film brings out these aspects very well, but while highlighting the importance of one, it also tries to downplay the others. In the film, Mahatma Gandhi has been depicted as a villain while former Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru has also been taunted. This film fails to show ideological differences in a dignified manner. Along with this, this film has also failed to live up to the cinematic standards on many occasions. Because of which despite having all the qualities of a good biopic, the film has remained an average biopic film.

The story is of glorification of Savarkar
The beginning of the film Swatantra Veer Savarkar begins with a combination of many different incidents one after the other. The plague epidemic, the death sentence of the Chafekar brothers, the scene of an Englishman’s conversation with Bhagat Singh, all this increases the confusion, however after that the original story begins, the story of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. His childhood, his studies and differences in Ferguson College, his association with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and starting a campaign against the British by creating a revolutionary organization like Abhinav Bharat, going to England to study law in order to defeat them through the British law. And then, along with revolutionaries like Madan Lal Dhingra, Lady Cama and Shyam Verma ji, to promote the fire of revolution in England as well as India. After which the British government arbitrarily sentences him to life imprisonment and he is sent to Kalapani. After enduring many tortures he is finally released. After being released from jail, how does he get involved in social work while living in Amravati? After that, how does it connect with the country’s independence and subsequent important events? All these incidents have been included in this story of about three hours.

Advantages and disadvantages of the film
Biopic in Hindi cinema means making a personality a god. This film also becomes its sequel. In the story of the film, all the important heroes of independence, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, Kanhoji Agare, have been directly or indirectly given credit to Savarkar for joining the freedom struggle. This narrative of the film is strange. Along with this, we got freedom late through non-violence. Savarkar, who believed in violence, had achieved independence for the country many decades ago through the policy of violence. The film mentions it all the time, but the blue print related to it is missing in the story. Savarkar’s thinking sometimes seems contradictory. Once he says that I do not hate Gandhi but his idea of ​​non-violence, but throughout the film, Gandhiji is made fun of through different dialogues. That Gandhi has become such a big man. Talking about the good aspects, the struggles that Veer Savarkar fought for freedom. Everyone should know that. This film also shows that very well. The punishment scene of Kalapani gives goosebumps. Why was no Congress leader punished for Kalapani? This film also brings this thing to the fore. Along with this, the common definition of Hindutva keeps coming to the fore these days. Apart from that, there was Savarkar’s definition, which explained the true meaning of the word Hindutva. Talking about cinematic aspects, the first half of the film is slow. The story picks up pace in the second part. The film needed editing, the three-hour running time has reduced the impact of the story. Apart from this, things related to every incident on the screen of the film have been written in English language. Due to which many viewers may face problems. , The cinematography of the film has to be praised, the look of the film does justice to every decade. The music suits the story. The background music has definitely become good. Ultimately this is not a propaganda film. This cannot be denied. The pictures of the former Prime Minister of India with Mountbatten’s wife are viral on social media. Those scenes have been given preference in the film. Similar pictures of Mahatma Gandhi have also been used.

Randeep Hooda deserves praise.
Talking about acting, this is Randeep Hooda film. He has mastered the art of getting into the characters and he displays this ability very well in this film also. According to the age and circumstances of the character, his body transformation is commendable. Amit Sial also leaves a mark in the role of Veer Savarkar’s brother. Apart from Randeep and Amit Sial, the jailer and Muslim staff of Kalpani jail are remembered for their powerful villainy. The rest of the characters including Ankita Lokhande had nothing special to do in the film.
