Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Rupala said that 31 fisheries activities are being promoted under PMMSY to attract investment of Rs 20,000 crore.

Indore. Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Purushottam Rupala on Friday said that with the aim of promoting fish farming in Madhya Pradesh, Rs 25 crore has been sanctioned for the establishment of an integrated ‘Aqua Park’ in the state capital Bhopal. “We have approved the establishment of an integrated aqua park in Bhopal under PMMSY,” Rupala said at a function organized in Indore on the third anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The central government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for this.

He said that the integrated aqua park will be of great help to the fish farmers of the state in getting good quality seeds as well as better training in fish farming. The Minister said that Madhya Pradesh lacks beaches and after the establishment of integrated ‘Aqua Park’, fish farming activities will be intensified in different water bodies of the state. Rupala said the central government has sanctioned five integrated aqua parks across the country. These include approved aqua parks in Tamil Nadu and Arunachal Pradesh.

He said that at present about 174 lakh tonnes of fish is produced every year in India and marine products worth Rs 60,000 crore are exported from the country. Rupala said, “There are a total of 8,000 kilometers of beaches in the country. Therefore, there is a lot of scope for increasing the production of marine products.” He said that the Central Government is continuously promoting the production of fish, pearls and shrimp even in those states which do not have coastlines.
