Karachi: Pakistan’s only medal hope at the Paris Olympics, Arshad Nadeem on Thursday said that he has not been able to buy a new javelin of international standard for many years.

Nadeem had recently undergone surgery to get rid of his elbow problem. He said that he has only one spear which he has been using for seven-eight years.

He said, “Now it has reached such a stage that the javelin has been damaged and I have asked the national federation and my coach to do something about it before the Paris Olympics.” He said, “When I started playing in 2015, Commonwealth Games champion Nadeem had not participated in the Hangzhou Asian Games last year due to knee problem.

He said, “To win a medal in the Olympics, international players should have proper equipment and practice facilities.” He expressed hope that after the sponsorship agreement with Toyota car manufacturer company, their problems will be reduced.

He said, “I will go to South Africa two months before the Olympics and practice. Before the Olympics, I want to play some international events.” Nadeem scored 90 in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Won the title with a new record by making a throw of 18 meters. Pakistan won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games after 60 years.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Amateur Athletics Federation President Akram Sahi has resigned from the post after a series of controversies.
