India’s men’s and women’s table tennis teams advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Asian Games by comfortably defeating Tajikistan and Nepal 3-0 respectively in their Group F matches here on Saturday. The Indian women’s team won both its matches, thereby topping the group. The men’s team also won all three of its matches.
The Indian women’s team, which defeated Singapore on Friday, made a great start against Nepal. Diya Chitale defeated Sikka Shrestha 11-1, 11-6, 11-8, Ayahika Mukherjee defeated Nabita Shrestha 11-3, 11-7, 11-2 and Sutirtha Mukherjee defeated Ivana Thapa 11-1, 11-1. 5, 11-2 and gave India an easy victory. Earlier, the Indian men’s team, which had defeated Yemen and Singapore, registered an easy win against Tajikistan despite the absence of experienced G Sathiyan and Sharath Kamal.
