Bajrang refuses to appear in the selection trial under WFI, will take recourse to court

Declining Wrestling Federation of India’s invitation to participate in the upcoming national trials, veteran wrestler Bajrang Punia has filed an emergency joint petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the selection trials organized by the WFI on March 10 and 11.
Sources have revealed that Bajrang, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and her husband Satyavrat Kadian have approached the court on Wednesday. The case will be heard on Friday. Bajrang did not confirm the filing of the petition but questioned the government’s silence on Indian wrestling.
Bajrang, who has been practicing in Russia for the last two months, told PTI that if the trials are being conducted by Sanjay Singh-led WFI, he will not participate in it. He said, “If I had not had to participate in the trials, I would not have spent Rs 30 lakh on my practice. But how is the suspended WFI conducting the trials? How can the government approve this?
He said, “I don’t understand how a sports body suspended by the Government of India can announce a trial.” Why is the government silent? We will participate in it only if the ad-hoc committee or the government conducts the trial.” WFI President Sanjay Singh asked the protesting wrestlers to forget the past and participate in the trial.
Bajrang said that not only she but Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat will also not appear in the trial. He said, “This is our joint decision.” We are together in this.” Sakshi and Vinesh could not be contacted in this regard.
