Chandigarh (Vineet) : Out of 1000 sports nurseries to be established under the new sports policy by the Punjab Government, 260 nurseries are being established in the first phase, for which applications have been invited till March 10 for the recruitment of sports supervisors and trainers. Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that under the new sports policy made on the guidelines of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to create a sports culture in Punjab and create a framework for the players at the rural level, there will be sports centers in every 4-5 kilometer radius. A sports nursery is being built in.
The Sports Minister said that in the first phase there was a proposal to open 205 nurseries, in connection with which an advertisement for recruitment was also given. After this, many players and concerned people contacted and demanded to open more nurseries. Apart from this, there was a strong demand to include those sports which were not included in the first phase. He said that appreciating the sentiments of the people, now the Sports Department is going to open 260 sports nurseries in the first phase of the 2024-25 season, for which a revised advertisement will be issued and the details will be put on the department’s website www.pbsports.punjab.gov.in. Meet Hayer said that 260 trainers and 26 supervisors are being recruited for 260 sports nurseries. Releasing the sport-wise details, he said that if we talk about trainers for sports nurseries, there are 58 trainers for athletics, 22-22 for hockey and volleyball, 20-20 for wrestling and badminton, 15-15 for football, boxing and basketball. , 12 for Kabaddi, 10 each for archery and swimming, 5 each for weightlifting and judo, 4 each for gymnastics, rowing and cycling, 3 each for handball, wushu and cricket, kho kho, fencing, 2 coaches each for tennis and table tennis, 1 coach each for kickboxing and netball are being recruited.
The Minister further said that in the area where a particular sport is more popular and the number of players of the concerned sport is more, nurseries of that sport are being established. He said that after the success of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, the department has data on which game is more popular in which region.
