Bank 5 Day Working: Employees working in government banks are going to get great news. Soon the Central Government may take a decision on holiday on Saturday. The Indian Bank Association, the managing body of public sector banks in the country, has submitted a proposal for this to the government in the month of July itself. This information has been given by the Central Government in response to a question asked in the Rajya Sabha during the winter session of the Parliament. Rajya Sabha MP Sumitra Balmik asked the Finance Minister whether any proposal has been submitted to the government by the Indian Banks Association regarding the five-day tenure in public sector banks. Is the government considering implementing it? Giving a written reply to the MP’s question, Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad said that the proposal has been given to the government by the association. However, in his reply he did not tell what decision has been taken by the government on this proposal. However, he informed that on the basis of the agreement reached between the Indian Bank Association and the bank unions on August 28, 2015, till now the holiday is given on the second and fourth Saturday of every month.

Bank employees can get a big gift from the Central Government this month. It is being told that at the end of this month, along with increasing the salary of bank employees by 15 to 20 percent, the Central Government can approve the proposal of holiday on every Saturday. Negotiations between bank unions and IBA regarding the 12th bilateral settlement regarding wage hike are almost final. Let us tell you that the salary agreement of bank employees has ended almost a year ago in November 2022. Since then, continuous talks are going on between the unions and IBA. About 8.50 lakh bank employees of the country are expected to directly benefit from this decision. It is understood that by deciding on salary hike before the Lok Sabha elections, the government will also try to establish its influence on the vote bank of the employees.

Bank working time will increase

After the meeting of IBA and United Forum of Bank Employees, if the five-day working day formula is implemented in the bank, then the working time of the bank is certain to increase. According to union sources, if the new arrangement is agreed to, now banks will work from 9:45 am to 5:30 pm i.e. 40 minutes extra every day. However, before this there was talk of increasing the daily working time by one hour along with working for five days.

The union held a meeting on July 17

United Forum of Bank Employees had earlier organized a meeting on July 17. In this meeting, the United Forum had said that it needs to consider a five-day working week in the upcoming meeting. EBA has said that this is being actively considered. We have requested IBA to work expeditiously in this matter, so that there is no further delay in implementing the new system for bank employees. It is being told that many other issues can also be discussed by IBA and United Forum of Bank Employees in the meeting to be held today. In this, apart from the 5-day work week, issues like salary hike and the need for group medical insurance for retiring employees will be prominently included.
