Bastar The Naxal Story Movie Review: After The Kerala Story, the trio of producer Vipul Shah, director Sudipto Sen and actress Adah Sharma has returned with Naxal The Bastar Story. The serious and sensitive issue of Naxalism has been given a very superficial treatment in this film. The film does not try to explore anything by going into the grey. Everything is black and white here. The Naxalite problem is not real but has been created. The audience needs to consider this truth shown in the film. However, this film does not pass even the cinematic test. This film only adds facts to the story, emotion is missing and the violence is so brutal that even an animal film looks weak. It is worth noting that in the end, before the end credits, the film does not forget to show that the situation in Bastar has become much better since 2014.

The story of a mother’s struggle with Naxalites
At the very beginning of the story of the film, it is told that in the villages of Bastar, people are prohibited from hoisting the national flag of India and singing the national anthem. In such a situation, the head of the family that had done this is brutally murdered by the Naxalites and the Naxalites also include his son in their gang. Bastar’s IG Neerja Madhavan (Ada Sharma) becomes the support of his wife Ratna (Indira Tiwari) and daughter. She not only promises Ratna to bring back her son from the Naxalite gang but also shows Ratna the way to take revenge from her husband’s murderers by making her a part of the special police force. Will this Ratna be able to do it? This is the story ahead. The murder of 76 soldiers and the case against Neerja Madhavan in the Supreme Court and the removal of Special Police Force from Bastar have also been added to the sub-plots of the film. This film also shows the nexus of Naxalism and Communism. How are some writers, professors and famous universities sitting in cities mixed together? The film also makes us aware of this truth.

Advantages and disadvantages of the film

This film by Sudipto Sen reviews Naxalism in Bastar. The period of events till 2001 has been kept, but this film does not go into the depth of Naxalism. The story and screenplay of the film are very weak. Naxalites oppose the infrastructure of development. This is shown in the film only through dialogues. To leave an impact on the audience, violence has been shown in a very gruesome manner in the film. Be it the scene of murder of Ratna’s husband or the murder of Salwa Judum leader to the scene of Naxalite woman Lakshmi throwing a small girl in the fire, it is clear that the film is very weak in cinema to show its impact. She is seen using tools. There has been no attempt to explore anything in the film Grey. Everything here is either black or white. All the people involved in Naxalism have been shown like ferocious animals, who are associated with this movement only for money. Are the tribals misled? Indira’s husband and why he thinks differently from everyone else. There is no focus on this in the film either. Talking about other aspects, the cinematography of the film is also weak. There are many flaws in the camerawork. The dialogues and music are in keeping with the story. The background music has become louder.

Weak story and screenplay also made the acting weak.
Talking about acting, Ada Sharma has maintained the same body language throughout the film. His acting which just shows attitude starts to wear off after some time. Indira Tiwari has tried to do justice to her role. Raima Sen is getting typecast in such characters. Experienced actors like Yashpal Sharma, Shilpa Shukla had nothing special to do in the film. Actors seen in Naxalite roles have also been seen acting typecast.
