According to a report in news agency Bhasha, Google has removed Chinese shopping app Pinduoduo from its Play Store, as malware was detected from other sources of the app.

Google said in a statement on Tuesday that it has removed the Pinduoduo app from the Google Play Store over “security concerns” and is investigating the matter. Mainly this app works in China. There is already tension between the US and China regarding many apps controlled by China, including Tiktok. Many US lawmakers had called Tiktok a threat to national security. They allege that such apps can be used to spy on American users.
Google warned users
Pinduoduo is a popular e-commerce app in China that often offers discounts if users team up to buy items. Google on Tuesday warned users not to download the Pinduoduo app from its Play Store. Google said in its statement that the setting of Google Play Protect has been set to prevent installation attempts of such marked malicious apps. The statement said that users who have versions of the app downloaded on their devices are warned and asked to uninstall the app.
Holding company’s stock declined by more than 14 percent
It’s not clear whether there are similar security concerns for Apple users with the Pinduoduo app, and the app was still available to download from Apple’s iOS store on Tuesday. PDD Holding Inc., which operates Pinduoduo, is yet to comment on the matter. Hong Kong-traded shares in the company fell 14.2 per cent on Tuesday.
