The BJP Minority Front is starting a nationwide Muslim contact campaign from March 10. The party has selected 64 districts spread over several states and union territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the first phase. In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, this campaign of BJP is considered very important. Apart from this, BJP will start Ek Desh Ek DNA program especially in Muslim majority areas of western Uttar Pradesh, under which programs like Sneh Milan program and Sufi Night will be organized.

Let us tell you that there is a lot of curiosity about this campaign of BJP across the country. But the need for such a program, especially in Kashmir, was being felt for a long time. There seems to be a consensus in Kashmir that there is a need to bridge the gap between the Valley and the rest of the country. Mufti-e-Azam of Jammu and Kashmir Nasir ul Islam says, “Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir have a lot of issues and grievances which they want to be resolved, besides there is a sense of security among Muslims in other parts of India. If those in power are looking for a solution, it is a welcome step, he said. However, he added that the BJP’s Muslim outreach program in Kashmir can be termed as mere rhetoric if practical measures are not taken to address the concerns of the local population.

On the other hand, BJP leader Ashraf Azad also feels that there is a dire need for a connectivity program for Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir are feeling isolated. This program will bring them closer to the rest of India’s population. We have to trust each other and that is the only way forward.” Azad said that the whole country needs to pay attention to Kashmir. He said, “We Kashmiris were used against the country. But this program will create confidence. The people of Kashmir, especially the younger generation, were waiting for this opportunity.” On the other hand, many common residents were seen confused about the new initiative of BJP in the valley.

He said, “There is a sizeable number of voters from Muslim Jat, Muslim Rajput, Muslim Gujjar and Muslim Tyagi communities in western Uttar Pradesh. They have an average population of 2.5 lakh in almost every Lok Sabha constituency there. Kunwar Basit Ali said, “The party will try to connect with these voters by organizing ‘Sneh Milan: Ek Desh, Ek DNA Sammelan’ in different districts. This will affect the electoral equations of most of the Lok Sabha constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh.

He informed that these conferences would be started after Eid next month and the first one would be held in Muzaffarnagar. According to Ali, Hindu leaders from Jat, Rajput, Gurjar and Tyagi communities will be on the dais in the ‘Sneh Milan’ conference, mainly including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, State BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhary, MP from Muzaffarnagar Sanjeev Balyan and State Ministers of the state. Somendra Tomar is included. He told, “The purpose of organizing Sneh Milan Sammelan is to establish cordial relations between Hindu and Muslim Jat, Rajput, Gurjar and Tyagi communities. Through these conferences, efforts will be made to convince these communities that we are all one, born in the same place, have the same DNA and together we have to take the country forward. Ali said, “The Muslim Jat, Muslim Rajput, Muslim Gurjar and Muslim Tyagi fraternities in western Uttar Pradesh maintain brotherly attitude with the people of these castes of Hindu society. There is no difference between Hindu and Muslim among them. Meetings, panchayats and community feasts etc. are all decided on the basis of the fraternity. Keeping this in mind, the BJP has decided to organize these conferences.

He said, “It is true that whether Hindu or Muslim, everyone has the same DNA. We are talking on the basis of this DNA and on this basis we will try to establish a relationship by calling Hindu leaders of Jat, Rajput, Gurjar and Tyagi communities on stage during these conferences. Ali said, “Through the Sneh Milan conference, an attempt will be made to give this message that we are all one, our ancestors were the same. This will strengthen the social fabric and people will connect with their leaders. Since these leaders belong to the BJP, the party will also benefit.”

Significantly, in the Lok Sabha elections held in the year 2019, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won the Nagina, Amroha, Bijnor and Saharanpur seats in western Uttar Pradesh. Whereas, the Moradabad and Sambhal seats in the region went to the Samajwadi Party (SP). The BJP is making a comprehensive strategy to win the Lok Sabha seats lost in the last Lok Sabha elections this time and Sneh Milan conferences can also be considered as part of this strategy. Let us also tell you that at present, out of total 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, 65 seats are with the ruling BJP. Whereas, 10 seats are occupied by BSP, three by SP and two by BJP’s ally Apna Dal-Sonelal.
