He said, Britannia has 15 own manufacturing units and 35 contracted and franchised units across the country employing about one lakh employees.
The company will increase the number of women employees from the current 41 percent to 50 percent by the end of 2024. At present, the company’s Madurai unit employs about 1,400 employees, of whom 65 per cent are women, he said. The number of women workers in this plant will be increased to 70 percent by next year. When asked about the reason behind the emphasis on increasing the number of women employees, Gupta said, “Women pay more attention to hygiene and are more suitable for jobs in food manufacturing units. Apart from this, women are also more disciplined than male employees. The capacity and productivity of the plant has increased as the proportion of women employees has increased, he added. Apart from this, the rate of leaving the job has also declined.
