Hyderabad. The ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana criticized the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) announcement to demonetise the Rs 2,000 note. The RBI announced on Friday the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation. However, notes of this value can be deposited or exchanged in banks till September 30.
BRS spokesperson Shravan Dasoju said in a video message on Friday night, “The Indian government’s decision to demonetise the Rs 2,000 note is completely absurd and illogical. In fact, Shri Narendra Modi has proved that he is an incompetent Prime Minister and the demonetisation in 2016 was a total failure.” Describing demonetisation as a big ‘scam’, Dasoju asked Modi that during the demonetisation in 2016 What happened to the statements made that it would “check the infiltration of black money and terrorists”.
He asked why in 2016 the government demonetised Rs 1,000 notes and introduced Rs 2,000 notes. The BRS leader asked, “Why did you (Modi) bring Rs 2,000 note and after six-and-a-half years why have you unilaterally, arbitrarily decided to withdraw Rs 2,000 note without consulting anyone?” Dasoju said the people of the country needed an explanation on the move. He alleged that during demonetisation in 2016, many people had died standing in queues. He said, “India needs an answer as to why you (Modi) withdrew the Rs 2,000 note.
