Brutality with women in violence-hit Manipur

Due to the incident of two women being paraded naked in violence-hit Manipur for a long time, there is anger and shame in the country., Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident shameful, unacceptable and a blot on civilized society. The incident has brought shame to 140 crore countrymen, he told the media in the Parliament complex. My heart is full of pain. The culprits will get severe punishment. The law will take all possible steps with full force and strictness. I assure that no culprit will be spared. What has happened to these daughters of Manipur will never be forgiven. This is not a matter of politics, it should be resolved by staying away from politics. Who are guilty in this and how many are there is a different question. Taking a strict stand on the Manipur incident, the Supreme Court of the country bluntly said that the government should take action in this regard otherwise we will. Throughout history and around the world, women have been used as instruments to perpetrate violence, but this is unacceptable in a democracy. This is a disturbing incident and a direct violation of constitutional and human rights. The court directed the Central and Manipur governments to take immediate action. What action did the governments take in the matter? We know the video was from May 4, but that doesn’t matter. Now the time has come that the government should really step in. Action must be taken as this is totally unacceptable. What steps are being taken to prevent such incidents in future. Who knows whether it can be stopped, can’t be stopped, or will just become a pattern. Chief Justice said, we will give some time to the government to act, if nothing is happening on the ground, then we will take action. The bench said, the court should be apprised of the steps taken by the government. It should also be ensured that such incidents do not happen again. The bench will now hear the matter on July 28. Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Manipur CM Biren Singh on the phone and instructed to take strict action on the incident. Shah has asked for strict legal action by arresting the culprits at the earliest. Manipur CM Biren Singh has said that the government will try to hang all the culprits. Heartfelt condolences to the victims who were subjected to extremely humiliating and inhuman acts.

There is anger from the streets to the Parliament against the kind of incident that has come to light with two women in Manipur. This kind of cruelty towards women cannot be tolerated. Maharishi Manu has written that ‘in the house (where) women are worshipped (respected), all the gods reside there happily. Where they are not respected and felicitated, all the work done there becomes fruitless.’—Manusmriti, ‘That family is destroyed only when noble women remain unhappy.’—Mahabharata/Anushasanaparva, ‘The houses which cursed by women being despised, and the household acts become plighted like being killed by a demon. Women are like a pool of nectar or the amount of happiness. Brahma has created them as the source of complete bliss.’—Bhavishya Purana.

In a country where women are worshiped as power, this kind of cruelty towards women cannot be tolerated. The culprits should be punished in such a way that no one dares to commit such barbarism after hearing the case within a time limit against the perpetrators of such inhuman incidents towards women.
