Non-governmental organizations made such demands to the government regarding the elderly
From including all elders in the Ayushman Bharat scheme to online counseling services, NGOs working for the elderly have demanded more inclusive measures from the government in the upcoming budget. Ahead of the budget, HelpAge India and AgeWell Foundation demanded a more inclusive budget that takes into account the welfare of the elderly. The AgeWell Foundation works with more than 87,500 volunteers to assist the elderly.
Edgewell Foundation presents detailed list for upcoming budget
The Edgewell Foundation presented a detailed list of recommendations outlining its expectations for the upcoming budget. This includes monthly nutri kits for elders from below poverty line (BPL) families, dedicated health care facilities at the local level and online counseling services to address various issues faced by the elders. Anupama Dutta from HelpAge India highlighted the progress made in schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and National Program for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE), but also stressed the need for them to be more inclusive.
Government may consider including elderly and disabled people in the scope of PMJAY
Anupama Dutta said, the government can consider including all the elderly, especially women, very old people and disabled people, except income tax payers, under the ambit of PMJAY. He also advocated the expansion of the National Program for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE) to accommodate a wider range of services, particularly focusing on outpatient treatment. Apart from this, Dutta said, for women, especially elderly women, who take care of the household work and take most of the care of everyone else… Caregiver Allowance will ensure dignity, independence and self-satisfaction.
