Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWM), who visited India in the country’s capital Delhi Responding to the misinformation being spread by foreign agencies on the status of religious minorities in India, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in his welcome address at the India Islamic Cultural Center (IICC) said that The involvement of Indian citizens in global terrorism has been “very low” despite the country having about 200 million Muslims. He said that Islam has a unique and “place of pride” among religious groups in the country. Doval described Al-Issa as an authentic global voice of moderate Islam and a profound scholar with a deep understanding of Islam. Doval said that as the world’s largest democracy and mother of democracies, India is a land of incredible diversity. He said, ‘You (Al-Issa) in the conversation elaborated on diversity as a fundamental feature of our existence. It (India) has been a meeting place of cultures, religions, languages ​​and ethnicities, which have co-existed in harmony for centuries.’ Doval said, ‘As an inclusive democracy, India has managed to give equal importance to all its citizens irrespective of their religious, ethnic and cultural identity.’ Doval said, “The scale we are talking about can be gauged from the fact that India’s Muslim population is almost equal to the combined population of more than 33 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).” He emphasized that India is playing its role as a haven of diverse views with an unlimited capacity to absorb dissent. Disagreement does not mean disintegration, disagreement does not necessarily mean conflict, he said. But no one in this country is in danger for their views. Al-Issa is here on an official invitation from the Government of India. MWL is an international non-governmental organization headquartered in Mecca, consisting of members from all Islamic countries and sects.
