New Delhi. The Congress on Saturday alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department were used against companies competing with the Adani group to benefit it. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that close industrialist friends of the government were being benefited, while on the other hand, inequality in India has reached a historic high.
A few months ago, in a report by the American organization ‘Hindenburg Research’, the Adani group was accused of irregularities in business activities. Since then, the Congress has been continuously attacking this business group. The Adani group had rejected all the allegations. In a statement, Ramesh said, “A few months back, the Congress party had launched a campaign ‘Hum Adani Ke Hain Koun’ on the relationship between Prime Minister Modi and Adani. We had reported how the Adani Group has repeatedly taken advantage of Modi-made raids by investigative agencies on its competitors. He alleged, “There have been raids by CBI, ED and Income Tax Department on companies competing with Adani to acquire valuable assets in sectors like airport, port and recently cement.
After the raids by the agencies, these companies pulled themselves out of the bidding and the property eventually went to Adani. Ramesh claimed, “The latest case is the acquisition of Sanghi Industries by Adani-owned Ambuja Cements. On 28 April 2023 comes the news of India’s third largest cement producer Shree Cement in talks to acquire Sanghi Industries. On June 21, 2023, the Income Tax Department starts raids against Shree Cement at five locations. On July 19, 2023, Shree Cement is out of the race to acquire Sanghi Industries. owned Ambuja Cements announced that it has acquired Sanghi Industries. The Congress general secretary said, “We are quite hopeful that like in the previous cases, this time also the promoters will be pressurized to deny that the raids influenced their decision to withdraw from the bid.” But the truth cannot be hidden.
