Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday urged the Center to increase the state’s share in distribution of electricity generated from various hydropower plants. Sukhu met Union Power Secretary Alok Kumar at Kaza and discussed several issues. Meanwhile, Sukhu expressed concern over the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the state government and SJVNL for hydropower projects – 210-MW Luhri-1, 172-MW Luhri-2, 382-MW Sunni and 66-MW.
According to a statement issued here, Sukhu said the power sharing offered to Himachal Pradesh in these projects was unfair and urged the central government to re-examine the agreements. Currently the stake is 12 per cent. According to the statement, Sukhu also called for fixing a fixed time limit of 75 years to transfer the ownership of these power projects to Himachal Pradesh as the MoUs signed for the projects after 2019 have a time limit of 70 years. The Chief Minister also expressed concern about the increase in the State’s share in various power projects. He urged that the state should get 40 per cent share in hydro power projects from companies like BBMB, SJVNL and NJPC which have already recovered their cost.
