Along with the world-famous Chardham Yatra of Uttarakhand, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, the pilgrimage to Shri Hemkund, the holy abode of Sikhs, also has its own importance. Chardham is starting from 22nd April.
The doors of Kedarnath Dham will open on April 25 and Badrinath on April 27, while according to tradition, the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham will open on April 22, the day of Akshaya Tritiya. The administration has made complete preparations on the lines of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ for the passengers. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is keeping a special eye on the yatra. In order to make the journey a pleasant and easy journey, the Chief Minister is continuously giving necessary instructions by conducting review meetings.
The administration believes that after the decrease in the number of passengers due to Corona in the last 2 years, there is a possibility of a large number of passengers coming this year, for which the work of the Mega Project Four Line of the Central Government is being done at a fast pace. Kedarnath Puri has been made modern with all the facilities, while the construction work of ropeway from Govind Ghat to Hemkund Sahib is also being done in the holy place of Sikhs Shri Hemkund Sahib. This will provide a lot of convenience to the passengers than before.
Special importance of Chardham in Hindu culture
Chardham Yatra According to mythological beliefs, where Gangotri and Yamunotri are considered as divine evidence on earth, Kedarnath is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva and Badrinath is considered to be the abode of Lord Vishnu. That’s why it is not called a journey but a philosophy of life. Shri Badrinath has been recognized as Baikunth Dham, Maa Gangotri as fruitful, Maa Yamunotri as Surya Putri and Kedarnath as Shiva’s Dham.
Yamunotri Dham
Yamuna is the origin of the holy river Yamuna, here is the famous temple of Yamuna Devi. Yamuna is said to be the twin sister of Yamraj and the daughter of Surya. To reach Yamunotri, one has to take a motorable road up to Jankichatti and a 5 to 6 kilometer walk from here, which is situated at an altitude of about 3235 meters above sea level. There is a hot water pool near the temple, which is also known as Suryakund. Travelers take it as Prasad by cooking rice and potatoes in a cloth.
Gangotri Dham
Gangotri Dham has Maa Ganga Temple which is situated at an altitude of 3048 meters, which was constructed in the 18th century. The height of this temple made of white colored marble is 25 feet, where the origin of the Ganges is also the Gomukh Glacier, which is 18 kilometers from Gangotri on foot. Gangotri has also been called the penance place of King Bhagirath. In relation to this, it has been said that the Bhagirathi river left its origin and met Alaknanda in Devprayag, from where after the meeting of the two sisters, it was named as Mother Ganga, which went up to Calcutta. Other places of worship near Gangotri temple are Suryakund, Vishnu Kund, Brahmakund, where devotees go with full faith and devotion.
Shri Kedarnath Dham
Shri Kedarnath Temple is situated on the banks of Mandakini River at an altitude of about 3584 meters above sea level. This temple is famous by the name of Shiv Dham. In this Maha Dham, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, pilgrims perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev with water brought from Gangotri. Adi Guru Shankaracharya installed Lord Shiva on this holy land. According to legend, Lord Shiva freed the Pandavas from the sin of killing the Kauravas at this place. There are many kunds in Kedarnath which have their own spiritual significance. For Kedarnath Dham, passengers can easily reach Sonprayag through big vehicles, 5 km from Sonprayag to Gaurikund by small vehicles and other vehicles. In addition to 16 kilometers of foot travel, horse, mule, Dandi, Kandi etc. can also be reached to reach the passengers.
Badrinath Temple
Badrinath Dham is situated on the right bank of Alaknanda river at an altitude of 3133 meters in the lap of Nar-Narayan mountain. In Shri Badrinath Dham, where there is a black stone idol of Lord Vishnu meditating in Padmasan, this temple is known as the oldest pilgrimage site. It is said that Adi Shankaracharya established this temple in the eighth century. The priests of Lord Badrinath are the Namboodiri Pad Brahmins of South India, who are also called Rawals, they only worship the temple, where apart from Shri Badrinath Temple, Tapt Kund, Narad Kund, Shesh Netra Nilkanth Shikhar, Urvashi Temple, Brahma Kapal, Mata Apart from Murti Mandir, the last village of the country, Mana and Bhim Pul, the Vasudhara waterfall site is also worth visiting.
Sri Hemkund Sahib
Sri Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara is situated at an altitude of 4329 meters above sea level at the confluence of Alaknanda and Pushpavati rivers. Regarding Guru Gobind Sahib, it is believed that Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, did penance at this place. That’s why Hemkund Sahib is known as the penance place of Guru Gobind Singh in the Sikh society. Its doors are opened for the visitors in the month of May.
Apart from the Panch Dhams, the pilgrimage also starts for Panch Badri Yogdhyan, Vriddhabadri Temple, Adi Badri Temple, Panch Kedar etc. Where thousands of pilgrims go for darshan. To go to all these places, travelers have to come to Rishikesh, from where all types of vehicles are available for them to go on these travel routes.
