New Delhi Sam Altman-run OpenAI on Saturday announced that it will finally launch its popular AI chatbot called ChatGPT for Android users next week.
ChatGPT is launching for an Android app a few months after the free iOS app brought chatbots to iPhones.
The company said in a tweet, “Announcing ChatGPT for Android! The app will be available to users next week, and you can pre-order on the Google Play Store starting today.”
The ChatGPT app on Android is more or less the same as the iOS app. Users can also sync conversations and preferences across devices.
The Android rollout is likely to come first to US users and then to other countries, but the company hasn’t revealed the plans yet.
Anyone can sign up to be notified when the app goes live by pressing “pre-register” on the Google Play Store.
OpenAI has also introduced a new “customized instructions” feature for ChatGPT, which allows users to share anything with the artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot for future conversations.
“Custom instructions are currently available in beta for Plus users, and we plan to roll that out to all users soon,” the company said.
Users can edit or delete custom instructions for new conversations at any time. Also, users’ instructions will not be shared with shared link viewers.
