According to a report by the government agency Xinhua, China National Petroleum Corp has started drilling the Chuanke 1 well located in Sichuan province. It will be drilled up to 10,520 meters deep. Earlier in May, the company had done similar drilling in Xinjiang province. At that time it was said to be the deepest excavation in the country.
The Chinese government had termed the digging of that well as experimental. Its purpose was to test drilling technology and collect data on the internal structure of the Earth. In Sichuan, drilling is being done to find out the reserves of natural gas in depth. Sichuan is in the southeast of the country. It is known for its spicy food, spectacular hills and pandas. The province also has the largest shale gas reserves in China. In the last six months, China imported 11.4 million barrels of crude oil daily, which is 11.7% more than last year.
