New Delhi: The trend of Electric Vehicles (EV) is increasing rapidly all over the world. The life of an EV resides in its battery and lithium is used in the battery. China is rapidly capturing the world’s lithium reserves. According to a report, by 2025, one-third of the world’s lithium supply will be in China. According to UBS AG bank, China has bought lithium mines in many countries of the world. Its production in 2022 was 194,000 tons, which is expected to increase to 705,000 tons by 2025. With this, China’s share in the world’s total lithium supply will reach 32 percent, which was 24 percent last year.

According to a Bloomberg report, there is a race to get lithium reserves in big countries around the world. Lithium is used to make batteries for electric vehicles. With the growing adoption of EVs across the world, the demand for lithium is also gaining momentum. It is being called the oil of the future. This is the reason why powerful countries of the world, including America and China, want to capture lithium deposits. Especially China is showing a very aggressive attitude about this because it is the world’s largest market for EVs. China has bought many lithium mines in Africa.

On the lines of China, there will be a 12-hour shift in India too, due to Apple and Foxconn, Karnataka changed the labor law!

China extracting oil from sand

China wants to get more and more lithium at all costs. He is also extracting lithium from lepidolite, which contains very small amounts of lithium. It is like extracting oil from sand. According to the UBS report, China is preparing to extract 2,80,000 tonnes of lithium from it by 2025. This is 13 percent of the total global supply. Last year, China extracted 88,000 tonnes of lithium from lepidolite. Lepidolite is found in Jiangxi province of China. The government has put a strict ban on its illegal mining. In India recently, a large reserve of lithium has been found in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
