Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer first non-franchise Hollywood to get 3am show in India

The month of July is going to be very exciting for Hollywood fans. The much-awaited Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One starring Tom Cruise will release on Wednesday, July 12. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer will clash with Barbie on July 21. Booking for both Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One and Oppenheimer opened on July 1 and has received an encouraging response.

However, Oppenheimer’s ticket sales have exceeded expectations. A source close to the film’s distribution said, “We all knew there was a section of moviegoers excited to see Oppenheimer. But no one thought that the tickets would start selling like hot cakes, that too two weeks before the release. There is a huge demand to see Oppenheimer on the IMAX screen. Since most of the shows are almost sold out, the exhibitors had no option but to run the shows even at 3 am. As of now, PVR Lower Parel and INOX Malad in Mumbai have opened bookings for the 3:30 PM and 3:45 PM shows respectively. Other IMAX theaters in the city will soon follow suit and IMAX screens in other parts of the country will do the same. There are also plans to hold a show at 12:00 midnight. Not just IMAX, regular screens can also play shows on demand, midnight and after midnight. After all, those interested in seeing Oppenheimer can’t wait to watch the film on OTT and on their phones. It is a film made for the big screen and hence, the exhibitors expect the film to have a healthy run, especially after the response to the bookings in IMAX theatres. An industry insider commented, “Surprisingly, when it comes to Hollywood movies, so far, only the family-friendly Marvel superhero movies and Avatar: The Way of Water can be seen at 12am and 3am/4am/ There are shows at 5 o’clock. Oppenheimer does not belong to any franchise or cinematic universe. This is also an adult-rated film, yet such is the demand. This shows the craze towards Christopher Nolan among a section of the audience. The curiosity to see on the big screen the much publicized nuclear explosion scene, which is claimed to have been shot without CGI, has also played a big role. It has increased the publicity manifold. Oppenheimer reportedly sold 14,000 tickets for the three national series on the first day, all in IMAX alone.
