San Francisco: US-based cloud communications company Twilio has announced layoffs of around 17 per cent of its global workforce as part of cost-cutting measures. In addition, Twilio will reorganize its internal organization and create two business units – Twilio Communications and Twilio Data & Applications. “We need to spend less, streamline and become more efficient,” Twilio co-founder and CEO Jeff Lawson wrote in an email to all Twilio employees. To do this, we are creating two business units, Twilio Communications and Twilio Data & Applications.
In September last year, Twilio laid off 11 percent of its workforce, or more than 850 of its 7,800-strong workforce globally. According to the company, all affected employees will receive 12 weeks of base pay and one week of service per year, along with health coverage and career resources. Twilio also plans to close some of its offices over the next few months. “As part of work from home, we plan to close some Twilio offices over the next few months with the intention of maintaining at least a handful of global centers and satellite offices,” Lawson said.
