Ammu Swaminathan
Ammu Swaminathan was born in Anakara in Palghat district of Kerala. She became a part of the Constituent Assembly in 1946 from Madras constituency.
dakshayani velayudhan
Dakshinayani Velayudha was the only Dalit woman in the Constituent Assembly. Dakshinayani Velayudhan was born on July 4, 1912 on Bolgatty Island in Kochi. She was the leader of the exploited and deprived sections of the society.
Vijay Lakshmi Pandit
Vijayalakshmi Pandit, sister of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, born in Allahabad on August 18, 1900, was also a member of the Constitution Making Committee. He started his political career from Allahabad Municipal Corporation elections.
Begum Ajaz Rasool
The only Muslim woman in the Constituent Assembly was Begum Ajaz Rasool. When the Muslim League was dissolved in India in 1950, Begum Ijaz joined the Congress. After this, in the year 1952, she was elected to Rajya Sabha.
Durga Bai Deshmukh
Durga Bai Deshmukh was born on July 15, 1909. From the age of 12, he participated in the non-cooperation movement. In the year 1936, Durgabai founded Andhra Mahila Sabha. In 1975 he received the Padma Vibhushan award.
Kamla Chaudhary
Kamla Chaudhary, born on 22 February 1908 in a prestigious family of Lucknow, was also a member of the Constituent Assembly. She was a famous writer. Kamala was associated with Gandhiji. She was also a member of the All India Congress Committee.
Hansa Jivraj Mehta
Apart from contributing to the making of the Constitution, Hansa Jivraj Mehta was also associated with journalism. She was born on 3 July 1887 in Baroda. She became the President of the All India Women’s Conference in 1945-46.
Malti Chaudhary
Constituent Assembly member Malti Chaudhary was born in East Bengal. She was the wife of former Chief Minister of Orissa, Nabakrishna Chaudhary. He also actively participated in the Salt Satyagraha launched by Mahatma Gandhi.
Purnima Banerjee
Purnima Banerjee, associated with Satyagraha and Quit India Movement, was also a member of the Constituent Assembly. Inspired by socialist ideology, Purnima Banerjee was a member of a group of women formed to fight for freedom in Uttar Pradesh.
Annie Mascarini
Thiruvananthapuram-born Annie Mascarini was also a member of the Constituent Assembly. Annie was involved in the ongoing freedom struggle in Travancore. She was elected as a Lok Sabha member in the general elections of 1951.
Rajkumari Amrit Kaur
Princess Amrit Kaur, daughter of former Maharaja Harnam Singh of Kapurthala, was also a member of the Constituent Assembly. He was born on February 2, 1889 in Lucknow. It was he who established All India Medical Science in the country.
Renuka Ray
Renuka Ray was also a member of the Constituent Assembly. She was the daughter of ICS officer Santish Chandra Mukherjee and All India Women’s Conference member Charulata Mukherjee. It was he who formed the All Bengal Mahila Sangh.
Leela Roy
Leela Roy, a member of the Constituent Assembly, was born on October 2, 1900 in Goalpara district of Assam. By establishing Deepali Sangh and schools in the year 1923, he gained fame across the country.
Sarojini Naidu
Sarojini Naidu, the first woman in the country to hold the post of Governor, was born on February 23, 1879 in Hyderabad. Naidu was among the members of the Constituent Assembly who drafted the Constitution.
