New Delhi. Tata Electronics on Thursday said construction of the Rs 91,000 crore semiconductor manufacturing plant to be built in partnership with PSMC at Dholera in Gujarat is expected to begin this year and create over 20,000 jobs. The Union Cabinet has approved Tata Electronics’ proposal to set up a semiconductor manufacturing plant at Dholera in partnership with PSMC. This will be India’s first commercial semiconductor plant. Along with this, it will also be a medium for Tata Electronics to enter the global semiconductor industry.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said, the Tata Group has a tradition of being a leader in many sectors in the country, and we are confident that our entry into semiconductor manufacturing will further this legacy. Construction of the plant will begin this year with a total investment of Rs 91,000 crore (US$11 billion) and will create more than 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs in the region, the Tata group company said in a statement.
Tata Electronics has collaborated with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to set up India’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled state-of-the-art plant. Its manufacturing capacity will be up to 50,000 wafers per month. Chips for applications such as power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCUs) and high-performance computing logic will be manufactured here, addressing the growing demand in markets such as automotive, computing and data storage, wireless communications and AI.
