king status
The land that was ruled by the great Chola dynasty of Tamil Nadu is called Cholamandalam in Tamil. This is where the word Coromandel comes from. The eastern coast of the country adjoining the Bay of Bengal is called the Coromandel Coast. That is why this train has been named Coromandel Express. This is the reason that it passes through the entire Coromandel Coast. This train is part of South Eastern Railway zone which was earlier known as Bengal Nagpur Railway. This train completes the journey of 1662 km in 25 hours 30 minutes. Its maximum speed is 130 kmph. It is given highest priority while traveling from Shalimar to Chennai. This is the reason why this train is also called King of South Eastern Railway.
