Country’s oldest billionaire Keshab Mahindra breathed his last at the age of 99

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Keshab Mahindra, India’s oldest billionaire and chairman emeritus of Mahindra & Mahindra, has passed away today i.e. Wednesday at the age of 99. INSPACe President Pawan K Goenka has given this information on his Twitter handle. He was included in the recently released Forbes Billionaires List of 2023 among the 16 new billionaires of India. He left behind a net worth of $1.2 billion. He stepped down as chairman in 2012 after leading the Mahindra Group for 48 years.
Late Keshab Mahindra started working in his father’s company in 1947. After this, in 1968, he was made the chairman of the Mahindra Group. Keshab Mahindra was the uncle of industrialist Anand Mahindra and till now was the Chairman Emeritus of Mahindra & Mahindra. Anand Mahindra got this responsibility after his retirement from the post of Group Chairman in the year 2012.
Keshab Mahindra was born on 9 October 1923 in Shimla. There has been a wave of mourning in the entire corporate world on his death. He was in headlines in the past for returning to the list of billionaires just before scoring a century and the news of his death came only a few days later. Pawan Goenka, chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (INSPACe), expressed his condolences through a tweet.
Goenka wrote in his tweet, ‘The industrial world has lost one of the biggest personalities today. Keshab Mahindra was unmatched, the best man I had the privilege of knowing. I always looked forward to meeting him and I was very inspired by him. om Shanti’
Keshab Mahindra was also involved in various government committees including on Company Law and Monopolistic and Restrictive Trade Practices (MRTP) and Central Advisory Council of Industries. From 2004 to 2010, the former chairman of the Mahindra Group was a member of the Prime Minister’s Council of Trade and Industry. Veteran industrialist Keshab Mahindra, who left the world at the age of 99, has also served on the board and council of companies such as Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, ICICI, IFC, Steel Authority of India Limited and Indian Hotels.
