Dates are such a fruit, in which the quantity of nutritious elements is high. According to a report, 1 kg of dates contains about 3000 kcal. Apart from this, it is also an excellent source of Vitamin A, B-2, B-7, potassium, calcium, copper, magnesium, chlorine, phosphorus, sulfur and iron etc. This fruit is also grown for high productivity and its cultivation in desert areas also benefits the environment. Along with this, date palm farming has an important contribution in creating employment opportunities and improving the economic condition of farmers in rural areas.
Earning up to 50,000 annually from date palm cultivation
Ramsingh Bishnoi, a resident of Shastri Nagar, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, told the media that a date palm tree can earn around Rs 50,000 annually. It is a matter of concern that there is more saline water in Rajasthan and the water level is very low. Despite this, the date palm growing from water having 2000 TDS is becoming very sweet in taste. He said that he has planted date palm trees in 16 acres. He has populated the sandy land in this area by planting 11,000 date palms. He said that he has planted 70 date palm trees in 1 acre. He is cultivating Medjool, Khalas, Barhi and Khoneji varieties of dates.
This is how date palm farming can be done
Generally date palm can be planted from seed only, but its plants can also be grown from cuttings. When grown from seed, the probability of getting a female plant is only 50 percent, whereas when grown from a branch, plants usually have the characteristics of the tree to which they belong. However, the survival chances of such plants are less in our country. Date plants include Barhi, Khuneji, Hillavi, Jamli, Khadaravi etc.

After sowing the seeds, irrigation should be done in between 15 to 20 days. In winter, irrigating it even once in a month is enough. These plants have to be grown like other normal farming. Also, after about 4 to 5 years, your yield starts and from then on your earning starts. On an average, 70 to 100 kg of dates are obtained from a plant after five years. Wherein, 70 plants are planted in one acre and more than 5000 kg of dates are available and its rate is up to Rs.50 per kg.

It has been told in the report that date palm trees can be prepared from offshoot, tissue culture or seed. Many varieties of dates are available from Rs.1000 per kg to Rs.1500 per kg. Up to 50 kg of dates are produced in a date palm tree. In India, packaged dates, jaggery made from dates, mats made of date leaves, feathers made of date leaves, etc. are sold on a large scale. Packeted date palm is considered very healthy and its demand is also very high in the market.
