New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Instagram’s Threads app has lost 79 percent of its daily active users on Android. According to the latest data, the use of X, owned by Elon Musk, is on the rise amid competition with Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The Threads Android app reached 49.3 million daily active users worldwide on July 7, according to estimates by analytics firm SimilarWeb. However, on August 7, the number of daily active users of the app dropped to 10.3 million. The average time spent by daily active users with the Threads app started at around 14 minutes worldwide, but was significantly higher at around 21 minutes in the US on July 7. By August 7, it was reduced to just 3 minutes.
“For comparison, X (formerly Twitter) has more than 100 million daily active users on Android alone, and they consistently spend about 25 minutes a day on it,” the data showed. Threads had a big launch in early July, fueled by almost immediate engagement of Instagram users on the new text-based social app.
SimilarWeb noted, “There is no surge in active users of Threads. The app’s active user count spiked in the first few days when new users were busy checking out the app and seeing who else was on it, but it quickly declined.”
In the US, peak usage of Threads was 2.3 million daily active users on 7 July, compared to approximately 576,000 as of 7 August.
The report noted that Threads in the US captured the same amount of active user time as X (formerly Twitter) at launch, but has since fallen far behind. Threads are also missing interesting content which makes X (Twitter) users come back only to read and comment on posts critical of X owner Elon Musk.
“Threads may still have a better chance of becoming the ‘new Twitter’ than some of the other options, but it needs to provide its users with more reasons to keep coming back,” the report said.
