Delhi Assembly approves additional grant of Rs 1,028 crore for cleaning Yamuna river

The Delhi State Assembly has approved an additional grant of Rs 1,028 crore for the cleaning of the Yamuna River by the Delhi Jal Board. This proposal has been introduced by Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the assembly. Sisodia said that Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena made every possible effort to stop the work of cleaning the Yamuna river. They pressurized the officials to stop the work. Despite the allocation of the budget, the work of the Delhi Jal Board has come to a standstill. Sisodia said that when the work did not stop, he blocked the funds but the cleaning work is still going on.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that somehow the work of cleaning the Yamuna would be completed before the next elections. Sisodia said that the CM himself is monitoring the cleanliness of the drainage and sewage treatment plants in the national capital. To complete the cleaning of the Yamuna river in the given time, a supplementary grant of Rs 1,028 has been allocated to the Delhi Jal Board. Besides this, the Assembly also provided a supplementary grant of Rs 100 crore under the Chief Minister’s Sadak Yojana for the current financial year and a few other works including improvement of road infrastructure, construction of additional classrooms, re-modelling of hospitals, public A fund of Rs 800 crore has been allocated to the Works Department (PwD).

Also Rs 49 crore is given for the work of trans-Yamuna area and Rs 75 crore fund is allocated to irrigation and flood control sector. The Delhi Assembly also approved a fund of Rs 8 crore for the Chhath Ghats. Other listed funds are Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana (Rs. 50 crore), SCST for welfare (Rs. 75 crore), Rs. 25 crore for honorarium of Rs. 1 crore to supreme sacrificers, Hospital Fund (Rs. 364 crore), DGHS (Rs. Rs 50 crore), Samagra Shiksha (Rs 199 crore), Higher Education (Rs 78 crore).
