DGCA imposes fine of Rs 20 lakh on AirAsia, alleging violation of civil aviation rules

New Delhi : The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on the airline Air Asia for violating the applicable civil aviation rules on Saturday. A statement issued by the DGCA said that Air Asia (India) Limited was inspected by the Directorate General during 23-25 ​​November 2022. During this, the DGCA team observed that some mandatory exercises were not completed by the pilots of the airlines during pilot proficiency check or instrument rating check, which is an International Civil Aviation Organization requirement. Therefore, not doing so was a violation of DGCA rules.

Show cause notice issued to officials

The DGCA has also issued show-cause notices to the company’s Accountable Manager, Head of Training and all designated examiners of Air Asia (India) Limited as to why enforcement action should not be taken against them for deficient monitoring of their regulatory obligations. The written replies of the company’s manager, head of training and all the nominated examiners were also examined by the DGCA.

20 lakh fine on Air Asia

DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on Air Asia (India) Limited for violation of applicable civil aviation requirements. The audit has also been ordered to withdraw the head of training from his post for a period of three months for failing to discharge his duties as per applicable DGCA civil aviation rules.

Eight examiners were also fined three lakh each

Along with this, the DGCA has also imposed financial penalty on eight office bearers of the company. A fine of Rs three lakh each has been imposed on eight designated examiners of AirAsia for failing to discharge their duties as per the applicable DGCA civil aviation rules.
