New Delhi, 04 January (HS). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued show cause notices to Tata-led Air India and crisis-hit SpiceJet. The aviation regulator has asked both the airlines to respond within 10 days for non-compliance with CAT-3 standards.
Official sources said on Thursday that DGCA has issued show cause notices to Air India and SpiceJet. The aviation regulator has issued show cause notices to Air India and SpiceJet airlines and sought their response by January 14 for rostering pilots who did not comply with CAT-3 standards.
The aviation regulator has issued this notice after more than 50 flights headed towards the capital Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) were diverted due to low visibility. DGCA has issued notices to Air India and SpiceJet asking why the airlines rostered pilots who did not comply with CAT-3 standards in bad weather.
What are CAT-3 and CAT-2 trained pilots?
Under this rule, the chief pilot must have at least 2,500 hours of flying experience and the co-pilot must have 500 hours of flying experience, which is necessary for the CAT-3 and CAT-3I training program. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is a regulatory body under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This directorate investigates aviation accidents and other related incidents.
