Leasing companies to airline GoFirst, which suspended operations a week ago due to financial crisis, have so far requested to de-register 36 planes. The airline on Monday urged the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to expedite its decision on its application for initiation of insolvency proceedings, saying that its lessors have started demanding withdrawal of aircraft after deregistration. .
A request to withdraw 13 other aircraft in GoFirst’s fleet has come to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Even before this, the aircraft leasing companies had demanded to cancel the registration of 23 aircraft and take them back. Thus far, the demand for deregistration of a total of 36 aircraft has come to the DGCA. The tribunal agreed to look into the airline’s request. GoFirst itself filed an application before the NCLT to initiate the insolvency resolution process after the financial crisis deepened. The tribunal had reserved its verdict after hearing the matter last week itself. The airline has grounded its flights after the non-supply of engines hit its operations and deepened its financial crisis.
