New Delhi. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) plans to take its strength to 1,100 and increase the number of offices to 19 by recruiting 400 technical personnel in the next year or two. DGCA chief Arun Kumar informed that the regulator is strengthening safety inspection capabilities. Kumar is retiring on February 28 after serving in the post for nearly four years.
He described his tenure as full of ups and downs, in which many steps were taken to improve aviation safety and the DGCA also faced difficulties in the case of SpiceJet with regard to engine and safety and many others. India has made a big jump from 112th position to 55th position in the aviation security monitoring ranking. “There has been a significant improvement in the aviation security surveillance ranking of the country and more than 4,000 points were checked, inspected or night monitored by the DGCA in its annual monitoring programme,” Kumar said during the interview. At present, the DGCA has about 1,300 personnel, of whom 700 are technical personnel.
“The number of technical personnel may increase by another 400 in the next one or two years… Also, the number of DGCA offices will be increased from 14 to 19 at various locations,” he said. Asked about the tenure. Kumar, a 1989 Haryana cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, said his tenure was full of ups and downs.
