Diwali Bonus: Modi government’s big gift to 12 lakh railway employees, 78 days productivity bonus approved

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ salary for the financial year 2022-23. This bonus is available to all eligible non-gazetted railway employees i.e. Track Maintainer, Loco Pilot, Train Manager (Guard), Station Master, Supervisor, Technician, Technician Helper, Pointsman, Ministerial Staff and other Group ‘C’ employees (except RPF/RPSF personnel). Will be available for. The statement said that in view of this excellent performance of the railway employees, the Central Government has approved PLB payment of Rs 1968.87 crore to 11,07,346 railway employees.
The statement further said that the performance of Railways in the year 2022-2023 was very good. Railways loaded a record 1509 million tonnes of freight and carried approximately 6.5 billion passengers. It also said that several factors contributed to this record performance. These include improvements in infrastructure, efficiency in operations and better technology etc. due to record capital expenditure by the government in Railways. The Cabinet further said that payment of PLB will serve as an incentive to motivate the Railway employees to work towards further improvement in performance.
According to the Ministry of Railways, PLB equivalent to 78 days pay without any pay limit has been approved for eligibility for FY 2022-23 for all eligible non-gazetted railway employees (except RPF/RPSF) personnel. In cases where the wages exceed Rs 7000 per month, PLB will be calculated as if the wages are Rs 7000 per month. It is being told that this will benefit 12 lakh employees of Indian Railways.
