Mumbai Actors Dulquer Salmaan, Vir Das and actress Richa Chadha on Sunday expressed grief over the gang rape of a Spanish tourist in Jharkhand’s Dumka district and demanded that the culprits be brought to justice. Police said that a Spanish woman, who was spending the night in a tent with her husband, was allegedly raped on Friday in Kumrumahat of Hansdiha police station area, about 300 km from the state capital Ranchi. Three people arrested in connection with the incident were produced in the court on Sunday, from where they were sent to judicial custody.
An officer, on the condition of anonymity, said that seven to eight local youth were involved in the incident. Salman said that he was shocked to hear this news. He wrote on ‘X’, “Shameful, Indians are treating foreigners the same way they treat their own women. Shame on such a society of ours.” Das requested immediate intervention of the authorities in this matter. He wrote on ‘X’, “Seven people responsible for the Jharkhand incident should be found and given the strictest punishment under the law. “This is a shameful act and we have to show that it will not be tolerated.”
