DVC to double power generation by 2030: Chairman

Bokaro. Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) chairman Ram Naresh Singh said the company would double its annual power generation in the next seven years. Singh said that to achieve the target of 15,000 MW annual power generation by 2030, another 8,000 MW capacity will have to be added to the current capacity of 7,000 MW. He said the company would invest around Rs 60,000 crore for setting up new power plants. The Center has given its nod to DVC to set up new power plants with a total capacity of 8,000 MW, Singh told reporters here on Sunday.
He said that three thermal power plants and two solar power plants would be set up for this. He further informed that thermal power plants would be set up at Raghunathpur (1,320 MW), Koderma (1,600 MW) and Durgapur (800 MW). We are also planning to set up two solar power plants with a total capacity of 2,000 MW, Singh said. In addition, we will also have two pumped storage plants to generate about 2,500 MW of electricity. He said that the corporation is currently supplying power to Delhi, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal and Gujarat as well as neighboring Bangladesh.
