New Delhi: In the coming days, ethanol will also be mixed with diesel in the country. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd in association with Ashok Leyland and Hero MotoCorp on Monday launched a pilot program to test the effectiveness of ED7 fuel blends. In this, 7% ethanol will be mixed in diesel. The program aims to transform India’s biofuel economy. This program has been started on World Environment Day 2023. The main objective of this program is to reduce carbon emissions. The pilot program has just been started. In this, by putting this diesel in roadways buses, its results will be ascertained. The ED7 fuel developed by BPCL-R&D uses 93% diesel and 7% ethanol. This fuel has been verified after testing it on the engine in collaboration with Ashok Leyland.

Preparing to develop sustainable fuel alternatives

BPCL Chairman and Managing Director G. According to Krishnakumar, BPCL is developing sustainable fuel alternatives under the Clean Fuel Development Program in collaboration with Ashok Leyland and Hero MotoCorp. Towards developing a sustainable fuel alternative, BPCL has started supplying E20 to several cities across the country. Pilot ED7 (Diesel Blended with 7% Ethanol) for Ashok Leyland buses and Flex Fuel (E27 and E85) for two-wheelers with Hero MotoCorp were flagged off today. This World Environment Day, BPCL is striving to move towards cleaner fuel for a better tomorrow.

According to Sukhmal Jain, Director, BPCL, ED7 (Diesel Blended with 7% Ethanol) is an ambitious initiative to enhance the economic prosperity of the farm population and its contribution to India’s GDP as well as improve the environment. Ashok Leyland has tried using ED7 fuel on its engines. ED7 is capable of reducing pollution levels including particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx). It has got good results. This mixture can be adopted seamlessly by diesel vehicles without any changes to the engine. After the pilot programme, a report will be submitted to ARAI, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for commercial use of the fuel.

Flex-fuel prototype developed

Hero MotoCorp has developed the flex-fuel prototype at its Center of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur. The vehicle equipped with the 125cc BS6 engine can run on ethanol-blended petrol blends ranging from 20% (E20) to 85% (E85) ethanol blends. Initiatives by BPCL, Ashok Leyland, and Hero MotoCorp are set to move forward with the Government of India’s vision to reduce carbon emissions and promote economic sustainability. Explain that Bharat Petroleum is working on a plan to introduce electric vehicle charging stations at about 7000 energy stations in the next 5 years.
